Data correction request
An administrative exemption allows incorrect data (such as the Euro standard, category or type of fuel) to be corrected when the information in the DIV and/or LEZ database does not correspond to the EEC certificate of conformity or any other document accepted by a public authority.
Vehicle adapted for the transport of handicapped persons
These are vehicles which have been adapted for the disabled, on condition that the person registered with the licence plate or a person living at the same address has a special disabled parking permit.
Exemption to be requested via form
To validate your request for an exemption you must attach to this form:
The parking card
Any relevant document attesting to the specific adaptation of the vehicle
Once obtained, an exemption will be valid for 5 years on condition that the there is no change in the terms and conditions of exemption.

Vehicle for persons with a disability benefiting from an increased intervention
What vehicles are affected?
The vehicles covered by this exemption are vehicles for which the holder of the registration plate, or a person domiciled at the same address, holds a disabled parking card (special card referred to in Article 27.4.3 of the Highway Code) AND qualifies for preferential reimbursement for health care (BIM statutes).The exemption can only be requested for one vehicle per special parking card.
Who are the beneficiaries of the preferential reimbursement?
The beneficiaries of the preferential reimbursement are those who are entitled to a social advantage or a certain status such as:
living wage or equivalent assistance
guaranteed income for the elderly
disability allowance
You can check your complementary health insurance stickers to find out whether you have preferential reimbursement status. Look at the 6-digit code (xxx/xxx).If the third number is 1, you have preferential reimbursement status.
Request an exemption using the form
The exemption request must be made using the form below. It must be accompanied by:
a copy of the special disabled parking card
a certificate from your complementary health insurance company proving your entitlement to preferential reimbursement for healthcare services
Once you’ve received it, the exemption will be valid for 5 years on condition that you continue to qualify for the exemption. Vehicles registered abroad must first be registered before an exemption application can be submitted.
These are vehicles especially adapted for markets, fairs, parades, mobile shops and film productions. Market vehicles where the driving element and the sales part are made of one piece, such as a food truck or a vehicle fitted out for fishmongers or butchers, are considered as such. For fair vehicles, the funfair element cannot be detached from the driving element.

To validate your request for exemption, you will need proof of the adaptation of the vehicle (e.g. an invoice for the adaptation costs or photos in which the registration number and the adaptation of the vehicle are clearly visible).

Vehicles especially equipped for the maintenance and inspection of public installations and infrastructures
These are vehicles especially equipped for the maintenance and inspection of public facilities and infrastructure. These vehicles are identifiable by their bodywork, equipment or other permanent characteristics. The driving element and the functional element must form a single block. This category covers certain utility vehicles, distribution system operators, road service operators and their subcontractors: sewer cleaners, sweepers, cable laying vehicles, tram line maintenance vehicles, etc. These are vehicles equipped for specific tasks and that require significant investment.
Exemption to be requested via form
To validate your request for exemption, you will need proof of the adaptation of the vehicle (e.g. an invoice for the adaptation costs or photos in which the registration number and the adaptation of the vehicle are clearly visible).
Once obtained, an exemption will be valid for 5 years on condition that the there is no change in the terms and conditions of exemption.
Vehicles registered abroad must first be registered before an exemption application can be submitted.
These are priority vehicles (as defined by article 37 of the Highway Code) i.e. vehicles equipped with one or more flashing blue lights and a special horn. These include police vehicles, for example.
This is a special purpose vehicle of category M designed to be used as a dwelling, of which the liveable compartment includes at least the following equipment: seats and a table, bunks that can be created with or without a seat, a kitchenette, storage spaces. This equipment must be non-removable.
Motorhomes registered in Belgium
The exemption is granted automatically. They can therefore travel within Brussels.
Motorhomes registered abroad
An exemption must be requested via the online form. To validate your exemption application you must:
Vintage vehicles over 30 years old registered in Belgium.
The exemption is granted automatically if all the following conditions are met:
The vehicle is registered in Belgium
The vehicle is more than 30 years old
The vehicle has a Belgian registration plate "O", "1-O" or a personalised registration plate (in accordance with Article 4, §2, of the Ministerial Decree of 23 July 2001 on vehicle registration)
The vehicle is not used for commercial purposes.
In this case, the exemption is automatic, there is no action to take and you can drive in the Brussels Low Emission Zone (LEZ)! The exemption is granted for an indefinite period.
Vintage vehicles over 30 years old registered in Belgium and used for commercial purposes (“Old-timer”)
For example, rental vehicles used for weddings or other events.
An exemption must be requested via the online form.
To validate your exemption request, you will need to attach proof that the vehicle is part of a business concept and is used for commercial or tourist leisure purposes (e.g. via photos or a copy of a brochure)
Once obtained, an exemption will be valid for 5 years on condition that the there is no change in the terms and conditions of exemption.
These vehicles are not affected by the low-emission zone access criteria. They can therefore travel around Brussels. If the vehicles is registered abroad, registration is compulsory to drive in the LEZ.
Electric vehicles
The exemption is granted automatically.
These vehicles are not affected by the low-emission zone access criteria. They can therefore travel around Brussels. If the vehicles is registered abroad, registration is compulsory to drive in the LEZ.
Vehicles used for emergencies
Vehicles used in emergency situations or rescue operations, at the request of the fire brigade, police, army, civil defence or road authorities.
The exemption is granted automatically.
There is no need to take any action, you can drive with complete peace of mind! The exemption is granted for an indefinite period.
The exemption is granted automatically after the emergency situation. Automatic exemption do not have a validity period.
Motorized two-wheelers (category L)
The exemption is granted automatically.
These vehicles are not affected by the low-emission zone access criteria. They can therefore travel around Brussels. There are no formalities, whether they are registered in Belgium or abroad.
Please note that, from 2025, the LEZ legislation will change and this category of vehicle will be concerned. More information on the agenda page.
Heavy goods vehicles (> 3.5 tonnes)
These are vehicles designed for the transport of goods, category N2 or N3, as well as vehicles of category N1 which have the body code BC.
The exemption is granted automatically.
These vehicles are not affected by the low-emission zone access criteria. They can therefore travel within the territory of the Brussels Region. There are no formalities, whether they are registered in Belgium or abroad.
Please note that, from 2025, the LEZ legislation will change and this category of vehicle will be concerned. More informationon the agenda page.
Category O, T, C, R, S vehicles
These are trailers and semi-trailers (O), agricultural or forestry trailers (R), wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors (T), tracked agricultural or forestry tractors (C) and interchangeable towed machinery (S), as defined in the Royal Decree of 15 March 1968.
The exemption is granted automatically.
These vehicles are not affected by the low-emission zone access criteria. They can therefore travel freely within the Brussels Region. There are no formalities, whether they are registered in Belgium or abroad.
Have you already submitted an application?
Once submitted, the exemption application will be processed within 69 days of receipt. Please note: if you have not yet received confirmation of your exemption application and/or if the vehicle in question does not meet the access criteria and travels inside the Low Emission Zone, the vehicle’s owner may be fined. If the request is accepted, the exemption is sent by post to the applicant (or by email if you are domiciled abroad).
More than 20 vehicles?
For companies or other types of organisations with a fleet of more than 20 vehicles, it is possible to submit a “mass” exemption application by contacting Bruxelles Fiscalité (Brussels Taxation) via our contact form
N.B.
The fact that your vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter does not in any way permit an exemption to travel in the LEZ. It is the Euro standards that count, even if you have installed a retrofit particulate filter.
No exemption is provided for vehicles used for professional reasons (with the exception of those included in the above list).
No modification on the engine of your vehicle can modify the Euro standard of the vehicle.

Am I eligible for an exemption and how can I apply for one?
Exemptions exist for certain types of vehicles.
Two types of exemption exist: those for which an application must be made to Brussels Taxation and those which are automatic and for which no action is required. Discover the different possible exemptions.
Important:
Once submitted, exemption applications may take up to 69 days from receipt of the application.
Please note that the vehicle owner may be fined if the vehicle is used within the low emission zone without confirmation of your application for exemption or if the vehicle does not meet the access criteria.
An applied-for exemption is valid for five years while an automatic exemption is valid for an unlimited period.
