Can your vehicle benefit from an exemption?
If your vehicle doesn’t meet the access criteria then it isn’t authorised to drive in the LEZ. However, some vehicles benefit from an exemption. See the list of vehicles eligible below.

When to apply?
Your request can be made at the earliest 6 months before your vehicle is no longer allowed to enter the LEZ. to find out your vehicle's due date, check our "Calendar"

You must first register your vehicle, before applying
Processing the request
Once submitted, the exemption request is processed within 69 days of receipt. If it is accepted, you will receive confirmation by post if you live in Belgium or by email if you live abroad
- No answer after 69 days? Your request is considered refused and your vehicle is not authorised to drive in the LEZ.
- Please note: if you haven’t received confirmation of your exemption, you might be fined
Exemption validity
- Automatic exemptions are permanent
- Exemptions upon request are valid for five years (renewable) provided that the conditions are met
- The temporary exemption for vehicles ordered in 2025 and delivered in 2026 is valid until 30/06/2026.

Renewal
- Submit your request at least 3 months before the expiry date
- No expiry reminders are sent
Fleets of more than 20 vehicles?
Companies with more than 20 vehicles can apply for a "mass" exemption by contacting Brussels Fiscality.

What you need to know
- The vehicle's Euro standard determines whether it qualifies for an exemption. Retrofitting a particulate filter does not change the Euro standard, and therefore does not entitle the vehicle to an exemption for the LEZ.
- No modification to your vehicle's engine can change its Euro standard.
- There are no exemptions for vehicles used for business purposes (with the exception of those listed above).
