The LEZ in Brussels: a cleaner air for everyone!
Brussels is a LEZ (Low Emission Zone). The most polluting vehicles are banned from driving there in order to protect the health of Brussels residents.

‘In 2026, Brussels continues to breathe easy’
Following the Constitutional Court ruling, all EURO 5 diesel and EURO 2 petrol vehicles (cars, vans, buses, lorries), as well as petrol motorcycles, that no longer meet at least the Euro 3 standard, will no longer be allowed to drive in the Brussels Region.
From 1 January 2026, motorists who break the law will first receive a warning letter. They will then have three months to comply: the first fine of €350 will only be sent three months after the first offence.
How to avoid getting a fine?
- Check whether your vehicle is concerned by using the simulator.
- Purchase a day pass (max. 24 passes/year).
- Check the LEZ map and locate the Park & Ride (P+R) car parks at the entrances to Brussels, where you can leave your vehicle and use public transport.
- Check the exemptions list.
